FAQs

If you are planning recycled plastic lumber decking or benches, these FAQs cover the usual practical questions about fit, use, delivery and care. For jobs in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, George, Johannesburg and Durban, we keep the answers clear so you can plan with less back and forth.

What recycled plastic lumber is best used for

Recycled plastic lumber is used where you want a low-maintenance alternative to timber for decking, benches and related outdoor fittings. It does not need the same routine sanding, sealing or painting as natural wood, which makes it a sensible choice for homes, hospitality spaces, schools and public areas.

It is commonly chosen for sites that deal with coastal humidity, splash zones, heavy foot traffic or regular cleaning. In places like Paarden Eiland, Somerset West and Durban, that practical resistance to moisture is often the main reason people ask for it.

  • Decking for patios, walkways, pool surrounds and courtyards
  • Benches for gardens, visitor areas, schools and commercial spaces
  • Replacement for timber parts that keep warping or rotting

How to choose the right decking or bench setup

The right setup depends on the space, how the product will be used and what the surface beneath can support. A light residential deck in Bellville is not the same as a high-traffic platform in Johannesburg or a public seating area in George, so we look at the site first.

For most enquiries, the process starts with site measures and layout planning. That helps confirm dimensions, fixing points, transitions, edge finishing and any component replacement needed on an existing structure.

  • Confirm the area size and intended use
  • Check access for delivery and installation
  • Review drainage, slopes and existing support structure
  • Agree on the finish, edge detail and bench placement

What to expect from delivery across South Africa

We coordinate deliveries from our Paarden Eiland base to Cape Town, Stellenbosch, George, Johannesburg, Durban, Paarl, Somerset West and Bellville, with planning around access, offloading and site timing. If the site has tight loading access, security restrictions or municipal rules for working hours, it is better to flag that early.

Delivery coordination is handled with the project in mind, not just the order itself. That means checking whether a team is needed on site for receiving, whether parts need to arrive in stages, and whether installation can follow straight after delivery or on another date.

  • Share the site address and access details
  • Confirm whether the delivery is to street level or into the property
  • Let us know about stairs, narrow entrances or restricted parking
  • Keep someone available to receive and check the materials

How installation and refurbishment are usually handled

For new work, deck installation and bench installation are arranged once measures and material quantities are finalised. On existing sites, refurbishment may involve edge finishing, component replacement or selective repairs rather than a full rebuild, depending on the condition of the structure.

Where an old timber deck has started to lift, split or show water damage, refurbishment can be a practical way to improve the space without starting over. Jason Petersen handles installation coordination, and Thabo Molefe oversees production, so the work stays aligned from the first measure to final fitment.

  • Inspect the existing frame or supporting surface
  • Confirm which parts can stay and which need replacing
  • Plan the sequence for removal, fitment and finishing
  • Allow time for minor adjustments on site if needed

How to care for recycled plastic decking and benches

Care is generally straightforward. A regular rinse, light scrub and basic cleaning are usually enough to remove dust, sand, garden debris or bird mess. For coastal areas, a bit more frequent washing helps keep salt build-up under control.

Unlike timber, recycled plastic lumber does not need repeated sealing or staining. Even so, it is still worth checking fixings, joints and drainage from time to time, especially after heavy rain or if the area is used daily by many people.

  • Use mild soap and water for routine cleaning
  • Avoid harsh solvents or abrasive pads
  • Clear leaves, sand and grit from joints and corners
  • Check that water can drain away properly

How to get support, quoting and trade help

If you need pricing, layout advice or help with an upcoming project, start with the enquiry form on our contact page. From there, the team can assist with material quoting, trade support, care advice and the practical steps needed to move the job along.

Our team includes Morne van Zyl, Anele Mkhize, Bianca Fourie, Thabo Molefe, Leanne Naidoo, Jason Petersen and Sibusiso Dlamini. That means enquiries are handled across sales, production, coordination, installation and logistics, so nothing gets passed around without a clear next step.

  • Send the site location and a short project description
  • Include photos if there is an existing deck or bench to assess
  • Note whether you need supply only or supply with installation
  • Ask for support on refurbishment, replacement parts or care

Questions we get asked

Do recycled plastic decks look like timber?

They have a practical timber-like appearance, but the exact look depends on the profile, finish and colour selected. The main difference is that recycled plastic lumber is made for low-maintenance outdoor use and does not behave like natural wood.

Can you deliver and install outside Cape Town?

Yes. Delivery and installation can be arranged for projects in places such as Stellenbosch, George, Johannesburg and Durban, as well as nearby areas like Paarl, Somerset West and Bellville. Access and timing are confirmed during the quoting stage.

How do I ask for a quote?

Use the enquiry form on our contact page and include your site location, measurements if you have them, and whether you need decking, benches, refurbishment or trade support. Photos help too, especially for replacement or repair work.
